Abstract

This foreword constitutes an introduction to the first issue of the “Eastern and North European Journal of Death Studies”, from which it borrows its title, while it also highlights some of the significant ideas that articulate the foundation of the journal. Among these, the most important is the necessity of continuing the still insufficient process of decolonising death not for the sake of a simple exercise of deconstructing death, but to continuously reconstruct its meanings, its historical, social, and cultural expressions in a collaborative endeavour, by building bridges between the scholars from the Western sides of Europe and those from the Eastern and Northern Europe. And, beyond this distinction, between death scholars all over the world.
